full screen dvd on 22inch

Looking around at pictures people have posted on several forums, it seem s that with 20-22 inch screens they still have the black bars on dvds, that i am experiencing with a 4.3 screen. i thought that with withscreen this would be gone. Is my thinking wrong on this or are people not setting there screens up properly. Also does anyone have a preference for 22inch monitor?

very thin bezel, no crappy 1w speakers under the screen. great price.. only thing is it hasn't got a DVI (two D-SUB's tho so i can hop between pc and xb360 easy enough).

and i think.. the border on widescreen monitors is because they are 16:10 while a widescreen TV is 16:9. can anyone confirm that?

ok but im interested to know if you can get rid of this without distorting the picture to much?

hi,

yes madduck is right, 16:10 compared to 16:9, so look at the resolution of the new monitor you're looking at,
e.g i have an acer 1916W with 1440x900 which is 16:10.
if u are watching a 16:9 movie (most movies and tv shows are) then u will still have small bars.
depending on your graphics card and the drivers/utility u have (like nView for nVidia cards) then u may be able to crop your picture to get a full fit onto your monitor but then u will lose some of the picture. however if u were to stretch an image from 16:9 to fit a 16:10 view u will get a distorted image aspect.

so put up with the little black bars!

Movies are commonly in 4:3, 16:9 or 2.35:1, depending on their age (examples, in order, would be Full Metal Jacket; Terminator; The Matrix)

PC monitors are commonly 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 or 16:10.

In any case where the movie and screen don't match, you'll get borders or distortion.
