    Lightbulb RAM Opinions!

    Hi,

Im looking to uprage my system in the very near future

im looking at getting 1GB OR 2GB of RAM

looking at 1GB of ram for now because its cheaper but then that would be a 512 matched pair

    but...

if i get 2GB it will be in 1GB matched Pair meaning i could eventually have 4GB of RAM

so is it worth holding out for abit of cash to eventually have 4GB of RAM or will 2GB be plently!??

    Thanks
    Dave

I think you'll want a Core 2 Duo long before you want to go to 4Gb RAM, at which point you will throw away your PC-3200 however much you have

I'd go with 1Gb for now (2x 512Mb), then if you want it you can get another 1Gb when the prices fall.

One potential drawback right now is, if you buy 2 x 512mb of memory, you may not be able to get compatible DIMMs in the future. And, mixing DIMMs of different brands or revisions, or made with different ICs can cause stability issues. I would suggest buying a minimum of 2gb now if you intend to buy at all.

If you have the money I would go for 2x1GB (2GB total) RAM, but this does depend on your computer usage (do you need 2GB) If you are gaming (new games) /graphic work / music production of sorts, then I would say yes you do.

Either way, get the fastest RAM you can afford, choose first by the bandwith and then by latency.

4GB would only be needed in exxxtreme cases!
