Lightbulb Get my pc G80 ready !

    Hey!
I need some help getting my pc ready for a shiney new 8800GTX but its gonna take quite a few changes.

    Here is my current spec:

    Intel Core2duo E6600
    ASRock 775 DUEL-VSTA
2x 512MB DDR Geil Value Ram
    Gainward Geforce 6800GT AGP
Antec Sonata II + 450W Antec True/Smart Power PSU
2x IDE HDDs, 1x SATA HDD, 1x DVDRW
    Soundblaster Audigy

Basically I dont think that the 8800GTX will fit inside my case, nor will the 450w be powerful enough (as sometimes i question if it even is enough for my 6800gt). I also think that the motherboard will bottleneck the gpu as the PCI-E only runs at 2x or something. So what i need is some recommendations on a nice motherboard, ddr2 ram and a nice silent case and psu. Im really not fussed about overclocking.

As the 8800GTX is around £450 i dont really want to spend more than £400 on the other components but im pretty sure they will cost more than that

I really appreciate any help that you guys can give me !

Nvidia’s G80 processor incorporates as many as 681 million transistors while the use of 0.09-micron tech process has made the chip larger and its power consumption and heat dissipation, higher. GeForce 8800 GTX is thus a very complex and large graphics card, but the developer has managed to solve the problem of dissipating so much heat quite successfully.

However, before you purchase a GeForce 8800 GTX, make sure that:

    * This 27.9cm-long add-on card can fit into your system case. Although a majority of ATX cases for top-end gaming PCs and workstations produced in the last 5 years are compatible with full-size expansion cards, you should check this out anyway as it won’t take much of your time.
    * Your system case is ventilated well.
    * Your power supply has a wattage of 450W or higher and can yield a current of 30A on its 12V power rail. Also make sure that 450W will be enough to power up all the components of your particular PC configuration.
    * Your power supply has two 6-pin power connectors for graphics cards.
    * The graphics card you are buying has its R520 resistor with a correct rating and a marking of 40C (more information is given in the review above).

You should also have a powerful enough CPU and enough of system memory and a monitor that supports resolutions of 1600x1200 and higher. As you could see in the tests, a CPU released less than a year ago doesn’t allow the GeForce 8800 GTX to reveal its potential fully in some games even if you enable full-screen antialiasing.

And finally, you should be aware that the ForceWare driver is not yet well optimized for the GeForce 8800 GTX.

Edit: hopefully this'll help with some pointers (I'm getting an 8800 too, reading the whole review should help give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside!)

The asus p5b deluxe seems to be a good choice for overclocking and stability.

Your PSU with need an upgrade. Id say 600wfrom a reputable manufacturer e.g. Enermax, Tagan etc etc. A psu with a 120mm fan will give you near silent performance. Be sure that you've got plenty of amps on the rails too.

You will definately need 2Gb of Ram, 1Gb will not be enough when you ramp up the graphics settings in a game or in Vista. Corsair do some good ddr2, just make sure its 6400 to allow for easier overclocking.

Pumpmans got a very nice LianLi V1000 case on the for sale section for £130 that would be perfect for you setup

Im not sure if it fits in a 180... would have to check, other than that make sure you have a powerfull CPU that wont limit the 8800.
I suppose you are still going for a 6600 this will easly backup the 8800 + you can always overclock the 6600.

i have searched around the net and found that it will fit in the p180 as long as i take the middle drive bays out - which i have no problem with.

and yes i already have an core2duo e6600, but its being punished in a poor motherboard with weak ddr1 memory!
