    Pc Upgrade?

Ive seen a good deal at a local retailer for £599--Advent PC---dual core 2 6300--1024ddr RAM--160gb HD--X1600SE g/c---19" widescreen tft monitor-- the querie i got is i cant find out what motherboard is in it.Can anyone tell me if this motherboard will be sufficient,I mainly play games ,or would i be better of just getting a custom made base unit off the net, basically would a good mobo in this setup make a noticable difference to me.any info would be great(forgive me for being totally unknowledgable on this subject lol)

I should think for £600 you would be able to get a pretty decent Core 2 Duo system self build. Motherboards are quite often rubbish on those sorts of machines, plus that graphics card would probably need replacing.

There was another thread somewhere where a C2D system was put together for £530 or so, check it out.

You should notice the difference graphics-wise with an x1950 instead of a 1600SE. The SE is usually at the worse end of a graphics card series.

It should be more stable with a better motherboard. Plus the self-build saves you £70 with better kit.

The Asus P5B seems popular amongst C2D builders, I believe it's fairly solid. £84 at Scan.

I've noticed that the Advent comes with a 19" widescreen monitor, so a self build may not necessarily be cheaper, but the components would be better, and the monitor would be one of your choice.
