Building my new PC at the moment! Have a quick question.

Hi all, it all arrived much earlier than I expected so I'm building my entire new PC tonight

I have a question thought which may seem quite thick I am fitting my sharkoon golfball fans to my case and Ive got the rubber things in the holes. Now I need to fit the actual fan and I'm not sure which way round it goes... If I knew if the fan spins clockwise or anti-clockwise, I would know which way around they go but I'm not sure.

There is also 2 stickers. One on each side of the fan. Am I supposed to remove these?

check this sides to see if theres any arrows, if not...


this fan causes air to blow into the page, so you can compare if with yours

have a close look, are there small arrows molded into the fan surround anywhere? those arrows indicate the direction of air flow.

where are the stickers? Never seen these fans before, and can't see them on the pictures i've found online. If they are just on the central hib of the fans they should be fine to leave on.

Thanks mate! Thats exactly like mine So I will put the side with the wierd image on to the front. I guessed it would go that way around but I needed to check... Wouldn't want them spinning the wrong way around once I had the motherboard and everything fitted and have to take it all out

Crap I've screwed up and I don't know what to do

Everything was going well, and then I put on the thermal paste and fitted the CPU. Then I was trying to fit the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro I got as a cooler, and I got one corner in, then when I tried to get the other corner in, the wrong corner went in.. (the one on the first side)... then when i tried to get the second side in, the little plastic bits that go through the tiny holes have bent out of shape and basically broken. Now I can't fit it in, and don't know how to get it off And it looks like the thermal paste got messed up underneath

Im gutted. Not sure what I'm going to do.

dont pull it.

get a flat screwdriver and turn each of the 4 posts (that hold the heatsink down) a quarter of a turn anti-cockwise and then gently lift off the whole thing.

to refit it.

make sure that all the 4 posts are as anti-clockwise as they will go. make sure the thermal paste is ok and gently lower the heatsink onto the cpu. keep pressure on the cpu (not too much), and push down on one of the posts and turn it clockwise, one quarter of a turn. do the same with the other three posts, it will get harder to hold each one down, and the last one will be quite tight, use the flat screwdriver to turn the last post a quarter turn and you should hear a click. give the whole thing a check over to make sure it isnt loose.

if you have broken anything, you might be able to take some parts from the stock intel cooler.

I got it off somehow.... a miracle. It just popped off after I tried lifting it up again. Some of the thermal gel got on the side of the cpu cover so I really need to clean that off and I don't have anything to do it with I think I'm gunna have to postpone until tomorrow when I can buy some. The cpu itself is a bit messy looking now too so I should really do that before I refit it.

The Arctic Cooler still has the little plastic pin things but one of them got bent open and they are too wide open to fit through a hole now. I tried to press them together with a pair of pliers now that I got it off, but it just doesn't go back together tight enough I think I screwed it basically, and I'm gunna have to use the stock intel HSF or order a new arctic cooler. What a screw up from one slip argh

Anyone know if white spirit would do any harm? I got plenty of that and kitchen roll... Im thinking of cleaning it up and trying again.

I heard that Nail Polish remover is great, so long as it isnt the one with all the Plant Extract's and stuff in that make it sticky.

I used white spirit. It seemed to do a good job, but i was so scared of touching the pins on the bottom of the chip I'm not sure I got rid of 100%. More like 99%... hopefully its enough. When I rubbed it last time there was nothing coming off so I've let it dry started building again.

I just couldn't get the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I know these things are usually a tight fit but I felt like I was going to snap the entire motherboard getting it in... so I've just used the intel stock one instead.

If bumped this all around so much... im going to be amazed if this PC actually works I'll find out later I think. Im just doing the drives and stuff.

I got another question for you guys. I'm about to fit the motherboard into the case, but I'm not sure if I need to use the little red washers or not? The manual doesn't mention it at all It just says, "fit the motherboard". Its a Gigabyte DS4.

ive got a gigabyte ds4, which red washers are you referring to?

When you fit the motherboard into the case, you are meant to use those little gold/brass bolts in the case. Then rest the motherboard on those bolts, and then screw the motherboard into those bolts. But on older motherboards, you had to use the little red washers (that are included with the bag of screws) on some holes, and have no washers on other holes so its metal touching metal.

I'm not sure how it works in this motherboard, and the manual doesn't say anything I dont wanna use them or not use and short the motherboard out because of it or something =O
