My sb75g is too loud, the fans made much difference?

    Where you purchase them?

    So many questions!

I'm actually right in the middle of this mod. took out the original fans this morning and will finish it hopefully this evening.

Ran into a few hitches though and maybe you could help.

    1. The screws that kept the original fans in place are too big for the new 40mm fans i bought. I didn't get the Addas though, was this the case with them and what was your solution?

    2. The fans come with a connection to the motherboard so i plugged them in to control with speedfan. at 1% the volume is just right. When you have the new fans plugged into the PWM are they pushed hard? would i be better off controlling them with speedfan?

    3. the PSU case is a bitch to get off. i had to bend back the top to remove it, is there an easier way to do this?

    TIA

Tbh, unless you can mod a bigger fan to the side i still wouldnt bother :/
Until shuttle bring out the external PSU they were bragging on about in sept. or the 60mm fan one which looked very promising, i wont consider another shuttle.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Do they need fans? Well I ran this PSU for 2 days.... 24 hours a day... and then it shut itself down. So the answer to my question is..... yes they need fans.... but if it ran for 2 days without airflow.... im sure a few large holes hacked into the psu housing to allow the hot air to escape would allow the PSU to run fanless.

Bindibadgi the shuttle PSU with the 60mm fan in it is out in the new A64 shuttle, might be a while till you can buy them seperatly though.

The external ones do exist, i have one on the desk beside me, although this one is for the Soyo Mini Dragon, Its an achme PSU similar to what was in the earlier shuttles.

    See pic: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chris_murphy/achmepsu.jpg

This has no advantage over the internal ones as its just the internal one with a couple of modifications.

Smelly Fart: See those black things that look like a film roll case but have a silvery top? They are called Capacitors. Either discharge 'em via a load (croc clips and a nice large resistance cluster) or let it sit (plugged into mains but OFF for say a couple days. Check to see if they are charged by getting some one you know to touch the top of the caps

Sure they do, you can hide it under a desk or somewhere. Doesnt look like the power cable is that long mind. They should defo go external though, for heat and space issues if nothing else.
