new graphics card...need help choosing a cheapish one.

Unfortunately my x800 will not be arriving, as it went out of stock and i could not see it arriving any time soon, so i cancelled it. But that lets me buy a better one with cash i get for christmas.

but that still leaves me graphics card-less. and therefore i need a new one. and also i just heard that im getting oblivion for christmas, and therefore i need a graphics card to run it on.

so can anyone give me some pointers on a cheapish one that will do for the while?

    thanks

    nick

that at £81 or ig you are still on agp then

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=466649

that would be a good option

if you can get to £120 an x1950 pro

You can buy my old X800GTO if you like, that ran Oblivion on OKish settings (but no HDR).

But I've just upgraded in favour of an X1950Pro which is obviously a better card, so I guess it depends how much of a budget you are working to.

Just go for the 1950 Pro. It is a good card that will last you till the mainstream dx10 cards are out.

This actually may work out best for you. Better than most people infact. The ATI R600 is sheduled for the end of January now. Theres still no way of knowing how it will perform compared to the G80, but it could be great.

The fact is though, if you can wait til around Feb, you should have more choice, and the G80 cards will likely be cheaper. And both the 1950 and 7600 are decent cards to keep you going until then too. Not sure what you are using now, but both those cards are miles faster than the card I have been using until yesterday.

as you are on a budget go for the 7600 although if you could find the money fro the 1950 it would give a good jump

but for oblivion the 7600 will do the job at decent settings
