ATX or mATX PSU - New parkard bell pc

Well basically im very confused.

Since i cant post the link to my pc search for PACKARD BELL IMEDIA 1569 and u will see the pc i have bought.



i bought that pc for xmas, i also bought a xfx geforce8800gts. I went to install it all today to find out that my PSU had no PCI-E connector. So i thougt cool just need to go and buy a new PSU and all is good BUT one of my friends said that it could be a mATX then i wld struggle to get a 400w + PSU which is what is needed for the 8800gts. Could someone please help me sort out my PSU im very confused :S

just noticed this - rails +3.3v +5v +12v1 +5vsb -12v +12v2

wld that in anyway tell u if its a ATX PSU?

For a start - don't spam the Welcome to Hexus forum that doesn't count towards the 5 posts - not good start to your posting career at Hexus...

The FSP will be an mATX PSU, but it is nowhere near powerful enough for an 8800gts. The best thing would be to post a picture of the inside of your case, and then we would be able to tell if it has enough room for a full sized PSU of sufficient wattage.

sorry im just getting very stressed. I had a look at some Hiper 525W Low noise PSU and they are the exact same size as my current PSU so wld that mean i could simple replace it with that or do i need to check for something other than space?

If your current psu is powerfull enough you can always get a molex to pcie adaptwer. Authough you will need two, so thats four spare molexes u will need.

Looks like its standard ATX, so you can replace it.

Take my advice though, buy a quality unit and not an el-cheapo.

Quality brands include Seasonic, Tagan, FSP. Not sure how much you'll need to power that 8800GT though. Find the 12V requirements for it, and buy a PSU that meets that requirement (12V amperage is the key issue for modern GFX cards)

I know Mesh recommend at least a 550w PSU for a PC with a single 8800, so something like a 600w Seasonic S12 would fit the bill perfectly :)
