Master/Slave query.

Hi i've just swapped my pc other to a new case everything good, but i noticed in the bios that my only hard drive is now running as slave i know why this is because ive used the wrong ide connection on the cable. However i was just wondering what difference this will make to me? will it affect the hard drives performance ? .. because for now im too lazy to sort it out

AFAIK I believe it just affects boot priority. A master drive is what your PC will boot from. But I didn't think you could have a single drive set to slave and still boot!
There wont be any performance loss by having it set like that.

Only Maxtor drives will refuse to boot from unless they are the master.
(In my experience, Seagate, WD, IBM etc were all OK)

You can set the jumper to be master even if it's in the slave port.

It will have no effect if you are running OK.
But if a 2nd device is added, change it to the master port on the cable.

cd drives hate trying to boot if they are slave (to install XP) - am not sure about HDDs
