    power supply question

    Hi

Just tried upgrading to a Core2Duo system.

    Bought an Asus P5B-E motherboard.

Already had a Superflower 520W power supply and didn't see any need to replace it. The budget was tight enough.

As i was trying to install it, found out that the Asus board has a 24 pin ATX power connection. But the PSU only has a 20 pin connection.

So is it possible to buy some kind of adapter that will allow the 20 pin PSU to fit into the motherboard 24 pin connection

Or am i going to have to buy a new PSU.

    Thanks for any help.

The 20pin PSU should fit into the 24pin port? You should be fine connecting it in this fashion for now.

Just for your info, there are such adapters available, such as http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=153575 , but depending on the specifics of your PSU, it may or may not be worth it.

    Thanks for the info.

Found a cheap adapter on EBay. Seems to work at the moment.

Dont know what the long term pros and cons are of using this kind of adapter. Just hope it keeps working.

Are you using the adapter at the moment or have you plugged 20pin connector in to the motherboard 24 pin connector?

There may be slight voltage drop with the adapter (someone pls correct me or backup me up ) but I'm not sure, shouldn't affect system performance and reliability though.
