How Much Power?

Building a new computer system, only I've not got enough for a new case/PSU yet, so wondered if my current 350W supply would be enough for the time being. New system not amazing spec but is quite a bit more than I have now.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
1GB RAM (upgrading to 2GB when money allows)
Geforce 7600 GT
1 SATA HDD
2 Optical Drives
PCI Wireless Card

What make is the psu?

A decent brand may be able to handle the spec. A no name psu is a different story.

I don't particularly rate the Hipers. I'm sure I read on this forum that newer Hipers aren't as good as the older ones as they moved manufacturing?

The psu may do the job but if it were my computer I would invest in a better psu.

Just my opnion, others will probably disagree.

The guys here persuaded me to get the 520w Corsair, have it on order from Scan now, special offer with a few ££s off.

Can't be sure of the exact model but it's probably that one. Cost me a lot more than that when I bought it though lol

2-3 years ago I was about to buy the same psu or an older model of it from KustomPCS. Their supplier messed them around and I ended up buying a different psu (Fortron or Seasonic).

The only review I had read at the time wasn't a favourable one and the psu was relatively new at the time (IIRC).

says it all power requirements have increased astronomically particularly shifting from 5v & 3.3v to 12v. you should be looking for a minimum of around 26A max load on the 12v rail. I doubt that the 350 will have more than 18A.

If £ is tight look around Power Supply Units - 460w - 485w 480W Tagan TG480-U01 is good value & was my last PSU gave great service with 28A 12v. But in personnaly i'd sooner pay a bit more & get a unit around 550w which will save money in the long term as it will have the power to last you longer probably a couple of builds.
