I need some odds and sods - where to get them?

    Hello boys and girls.

I need to buy a few bits and pieces - nothing major - for my computers. I have looked around but cannot find anywhere to buy what im after. Maybe you guys can help.

First of all - I need about 30meters of network cable that is going to be used on a Gigabit network. I also need about 50 network connectors. I also need 2 double-socket network boxes (them boxes with 2 UTP plugs that screw to the wall that i can plug network cables into easily). Also I need a Gigabit Switch - don't want something overly expensive. The cables are going to be routed outside in places aswell so please take that into consideration.

Second of all - I am looking for a cable about 0.5m in length that has a male 6pin firewire 400 connection on one end, and a 6pin female on the other. Basically a short firewire extension cable. Needs to be short for what i am using it for.

Thirdly - I have 2 computers on my desk that i switch to and from regulary. At the moment I have to unplug the cable from my speakers into the computers as and when I need it. Is there anything I can buy so that I can plug both sound ports into the speakers at once? Like some sort of splitter so that the sound from both computers will go through the speakers at the same time so I dont have to keep swapping and changing? Failing that, I need a 0.5m 3.5mm stereo cable extension.

    Thanks,

    Stuart

A few good places to look for all these things are Maplin, B&Q, CPC.co.uk and cablesandstuff.com

B&Q is surprisingly good value for networking parts, especially if you are not buying loads. If you are buying a lot, then mail order works out cheaper.

Maplin have lots of odd littel things, but are expensive. CPC have a huge selection, but delivery can make them expensive.

Well I get some stuff from ebay. e.g. USB cable to printer/scanner PCworld £16, ebay £3 to £5.

My son paid £16 for that cable, so he got his money back when I got him one from ebay. And his Pcworld wireless mouse wasn't connecting properly, and he got his money back on that too.

scan should do most of the above (can't find the wall sockets/boxes, but the rest is no problem)
