Twinmos Twister DDR & Abit NF7-s

I got x2 256mb Twinmos Twister 256mb Ddr400 Pc3200 Cl2.0 off ebuyer today and to my horror it wont boot in my Abit NF7-s !!! I am trying to find out if it is broke as it was sent in just a jiffy bag !!!

Has anyone here got twinmos twister in the same mobo - is there a compatibility thing here that i have found out the hard way

Post on abit forums. forums.abit-usa.com There shouldnt be a problem. Have you reset the CMOS? (the jumper by the battery)

Have you got another rig to test the memory?

Otherwise i feel for you, as you will prolly have to RMA it and the ebuyer RMA system is one of the worst.

i concur, i had a nice turnaround on the RMA with ebuyer (a harddrive i bought off their bargain bit, which clunked like hell and was sure to give up soon)...

also can you confirm that it is definately cl2.0? and does it come with the copper heatspreaders as in the picture on the site? (and that it was £38 each)

Yes they have got copper heatspreaders, although i'd see how this works out before buying if you have a NF7-s !

I have actually managed to get it to work by clearing the bios and putting one 256MB stick into slot 1. Then it boots so i go into the bios change the cpu fsb to 200*11 > save > exit > load up windows. I then shutdown/turn off add the extra stick & it works with both! It will not boot if i add both sticks (in any combination) after reseting the bios battery

The other strange factor is that before i could NOT run the 2500+ @ 11*200 stable but it seems to perform fine now - ran prime95 for 1/2 hr. I had normal Twinmos PC3200 before with Twinmos chips (OcUK ones) which crashed in Prime95 within 30 secs. I will be leaving it on tonight to stability.

I have had a quick play with the bios setings with the single 256mb stick installed after i reset the bios battery. The default settings are optimal 7,3,3,2. It does'nt like anything changed with just changing the Cas from 2.0 to 3.0 causing a NO-BOOT situation.

I have tried the memory in another computer (Syntax SV266A) and its work fine as single or double. I think the issue is something to do with the fsb. I am also thinking that the NF7-s is causing the problem but I have'nt got access to another 400fsb computer to test this. I only hope that it is stable @200*11 in the long run as i cant go back now - i sold the other older memory sticks
