Okay it seems as if he already has a few bits. What do you think about the below system. I'm thinking its a good idea to hold off on a new gfx card till the end of the month after the new releases (He really DX10).

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Socket 775, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail - £207.85

    Asus P5N32 SLI Premium/WiFi-AP NF590 SLI, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX - £140.94

    2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC5400 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12 - £159.26

Antec P180 Advanced Tower Case, Black (no PSU) - £91.52

    LiteOn 16x DVD + /-RW/RAM SATA black drive & S/W - £23.72

    1 x 320 Gb Western Digital WD3200KS Caviar SE16, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms - £64.14

Wait on the GFX card as ATI will be releasing a whole new range later this month which will drop prices across all gfx products.

    600W Enermax Noisetaker SLi EG701AX-VE(W)-SFMA (20+4) SLi PCI-E READY aPFC Quiet - £82.24

Windows XP Home OEM - 56.75

    Cables/Extra fan? - £20

    Total - £846.42

Also as I'm now a mac man when will we start seeing DX10 games etc? I know Vista uses it for general things and the cards seem very expensive at the moment - are they coming down?

Vista won't use DX10 for anything. Games using it for any real benefit will be around march, but even then it'll just be a fidelity/speed upgrade at first, nothing really major.

The cards are already coming down in price gradually as competition between third party providers drives down margins, when ATI start making more noise about their DX10 part prices will come down further, but that could be quite a while now.
