3 pin connecter only fits on 1 way there is a plastic guard, which doesn't show in the intel pic. Issue is that pwm capable (ie with 4 wires to enable pwm monitoring) just don't seem to be available. searching 4 pin just brings up the normal 3pin + 4pin molex. The Artic 120's that are in my Overclockers thread are about the only lead will chase up some of the uk stockists.

Stability Progress: Memtest ran 14 passes clear. left Orthos running rig crashed to dos.

Another thing which isn't just a commando thing is as i boot up. I assume this is cos i have no PWM 4pin fan attached to the CPU fan header. i'm struggling to find a suitable 120mm pwm fan. Fan for Intel 4Pin CPU Fan Header Didn't know about the 4pin header until i got board, i'd have thought that their would be alot more around.

I have just fitted my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro to my Commando (prodded into action by Clunk) , it (the ACF7P) has a 4 wire fan connecter with PWM control..... Purrrrrrfect!

The board looks like it was made for it there is aboubt 2-3 mil clearance between it and the P956 cooler....

I am going to order the RAM, cooler and power supply tomorrow. The psu being the 620w corsair, the RAM being the 2gb team X memory cas4 and the cooler possibly the Tuniq Tower 120......
Give me ideas and opinions people, I will buy the cooler most recommended. (but most likely the Tuniq Tower 120)

    Some progress today

Still had a couple of bsod's but more likely due to my 1st steps at pushing things up

Ran memtest overnight at stock settings no issues. Tried orthos which crashed to dos. Thought i'd try re-installing xp, but install was falling around my head. Reset bios & removed battery again. After this things have improved, not certain but i think maybe the dmi pool aor something has been screwed over the last 2 days. Am more familiar with award bios but i assume the same can happen here. Have hacked a silverstone FM121 today cutting out the inside flanges so it will fit on my ultra 120, fan speed is not being reported correctly linked to Optfan2, will check it tommorow will bring my temps down a bit.

Breaking new ground on the super-pi. So may be back on track with luck.

@EtheAv8r - Yep i saw that they use pwm in a few of their fans & coolers, it was an Artic 120 that was pointed out to me:- Fan for Intel 4Pin CPU Fan Header

    @No.72 - Looks good

You may find this interesting with regards the Tuniq Tower 120, quite frankly I understand why they are in such short supply, they are unbelievable!

Hay, I have made the order from the OCUK!!!! yes I am surprised too. I ordered the 2gb g skill hz black RAM some of that gimmicky Alaska sound proofing, a corsair 620w psu, I got scared and lost my bottle at the ordering screen
and played safe and got the artic pro 7

lets hope I don't have to RMA!

Well bit the bullet & upgraded PSU blowing what was left of upgrade budget & foregoing the extra 2x80gb hitachi sata2.
got ETASIS ET850 which is at a decent £ compared with the other 850w units in scan. Comes in pretty well PSU Recommendations for High End Gaming PC's jonny is a very knowledgble guy on psu's who's opinniion i've learned to value.

    Well results:-
    9x334 @2:3

    &

    9x334 @4:5
Have shown the last as it highlights something i'd only read of up till now - that running memory faster on a higher nb strap doesn't give that much extra 1mb pi is faster but not that much.

Anyway 3K. But as foretold by Klunk temps have crept up. Have left Vcore on auto & it's moved up to 1.3 giving 40C+ on idle

    Getting there mate

I ended up locking my vcore lower than auto was setting it at.

Im not sure how accurately your board reports temps, but using that asus probe thing, it reports around 6c higher than coretemp or TAT.

I ended up locking my vcore lower than auto was setting it at.
Was thinking of doing same see how much i could lower vcore & still get the same clock. Nearly had heart attack a few minutes ago. Thought i'd drop a multi & up fsb so went for 8x400 with 1:2. Booted into Xp great saw vcore had dropped from 1.3 to 1.1 ish thought that's a good wheeze temps should be down, wrong were showing 63C @ idle. Am getting less sure about accuracy oif temps, but all software seems to be in line +/- 2~3C TAT seems to show marginally higher. Also checked with CoreTemp Beta.

Am pleased with the way things are going now starting to feel right at home Also found some good posts which herlped with memory timings & voltage scaling. Had been pitching vdimm a bit to low.

Lol Forgot about vdroop on these asus boards. Have just tried running with a lower vcore than auto. so thinking of 1.30 from auto started from 1.25 & went upward by increment. got a bit depressed when i got to 1,3 in bios, until i booted to xp & saw it in software @1.25v around 5C cooler.

Oh well better go 2 bed

Just used PC Pitstop to get a rating of the system after upgrade :-
    Old Opteron148 @11x266

    6600 @300x9

    Quite a pleasing increase

PCpitstop is quiet a good tool, itend to use it every now & then, it's quiet good at isolating small issues that may get overlooked. (i lose some points on current rig as c:\ drive is fragmentated after install.

    Continuing Blogg
Continued from 334 to 355 @ vcore of 1.2875(bios) Highest i've pushed memory, but orthos bombed after 2min.
Upped vcore to 1.30(again bios) & dropped memory to 4:5
360x9 this time is more stable

But it's getting pretty warm round here Think heat is the only constraint here, with my amd rig tinkered all day tweaking this & that. Here u just rev it up & it's smokin' (literally ), only other voltage changes are vdimm @2.2v & nb volts up 1 notch. Not sure how much higher i can push it , wife can't hear the telly for the fans , will have to take the sides off next
