Hi i am buying new parts for my computer.These are the specs of my existing computer.

Motherboard: Asus A8V-E SE
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ 2.2GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM KINGSTON
Hard Drive: 81 GB Total
Video Card: NVIDIA XFX GeForce 6600 GT
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor(Acer 17" LCD)
Speakers/Headphones: CreativeSBS580 5.1 Digital Surround Sound
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Power supply: 500W Jeantech Dual Rail (12V1-15A) (12V2-18A)

And this will be my new computer

I need to know what kind of power supply i will be needing for my new system!?! How many rails i need!?!

These are without doubt, the best value PSUs that you would require to also give you a bit of headroom should you upgrade further again.
They will all run anything but the MOST HUNGRY machines around.
Three of them are under £70 and 1 under £80.

I think the Seasonic PSUs are great. Pretty quiet and efficient. Don't go for anything under 600W. My two cents.

I would say a 600w Seasonic S12 would be a good bet, though if you want a second 8800 later look at the 750w M12 from Seasonic

Estasis make Silverstones PSU's so whatever review you read on Silverstone and want to purchase one buy the Estasis equivalent and save a few bob.
FYI I have a similar system cept for the mobo AW9D-Max and it runs rock steady with a 700 Watt Epsilon from FSP.

Any half decent 500W PSU should power that with ease.
600W is nice, but an overkill

If I understand you correctly, you are suggesting not getting a 600w PSU because it will cost you more?


600w units are no less efficient than 500w units, if a computer doesn't draw the full 500w then it will cost the same to run regardless of which one you use.

It is definitely overkill for a 17" monitor. You'll need 24"+ to make use of that 8800GTX. Otherwise I'd recommend getting a 7900GS/7950GT as your graphics card (or even stick with your 6600GT and see if you are happy with 3D performance first.

I agree with arthurleung, and if you wanna overclock the CPU (which you should ) you'll need a different motherboard.
