I'd still go for a E6300(or if you can, wait for the new intel chips) to be honest if its in your budget, mainly because its faster

unfortunately my budget is round 250pounds (375euros), as i dont want to spend more on a computer currently. Moreover the use of the computer will be for photoshop, music editing and some games like halflife 2 (as i am performing all those tasks on my laptop + all business related and dont want to overuse overheat and all the over words you can get! )

As for hard disk: got an 80gb 7200 ide 133 (will use for windows install) and might go for a 250gb sata2. Will it have any performance issues regarding the difference of ide and sata?

And a final questions asus or abit?

No - they are just as fast as each other.

On that budget - whichever is cheapest. Both are good.
