    Opteron 170 or AMD 2x 4600+

Any idea which one is the better deal.

Both are in stock at Scan or Overclockers (yes I know ) but I think this is my last chance of upgrading this box without having to replace the CPU and the memory/ motherboard at the same time.

If you have good stable mobo that can do 270-300 then I'd get 170 if I were you, if not I 'll just get 4600+ instead. I believe both cpu overclock around the same so cheaper the better!

.....you're going to overclock it right?

I'd get the 170 from Scan (works out cheaper with the Hexus free postage).

//edit: no... it works out cheaper even when comparing to the OcUK price ex. VAT. It works out cheaper by over £25 when I read correctly.... no contest.

If I didn't have my bike in for a pretty major service right now, I'd be buying one of those for my work machine.

Isn't the 165 the same as the 170 with a different clock, not that that means anything if your overclocking it.
    With love and many thanks,

Essentially. The 170 has a high multiplier, so in theory overclocking it will be easier (assuming your motherboard is the limiting factor, rather than the CPU).

If you have a good clocking board go for the 170, otherwise stick with the 4600+ the final clocks on both will be about the same. It'll just be easier to attain with the 4600+
