    Help please......

got me new X1600 pro sapphire card and 19" widescreen tft today.

small problem. i put the card in the pci- slot an it booted and everything going ok till windows detected the new card and monitor.

my software won't install as it says it needs a vga compatible driver. i have tried re-installing under the system profile with the xp disc, ati driver disk, monitor disk and motherboard disk but to no avail.

picks up my little TNT 2 card straight away no problems. whats wrong, is the card incompatible with the mobo or windows???

also, now it won't display a pic past the windows xp screen on boot up.

all on a ASrock dual vsta mobo.

edit: it picks the card on the TNT under display properties with all its chip details but on the ati its all question marks. could the card be knackered even though it works the first instal??

    arrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, in the bios have you set the priority to initialise the vga from the PCI-E slot. If it is set to AGP it may have problems booting.
i may be completely off the mark with that. Clunk where are you?

Download the latest version of the Catalyst drivers.

If that fails, you will have to manually install the driver by doing "Update Driver" from the entry in "Device Manager" and then pointing it to your drivers and choose the X1600 Pro card from the list.

Its normally because the card isn't 100% supported in the driver release you have and therefore cannot auto-detect it.

    hi

    update:

did the bios settings as i thought that. all to no avail. i think the card is dead. my reasons:

i noticed that when you first turn the machine on it states the graphics card with its bios and chipset details in the top left. my TNT2 shows it but this one show a load of lines.

also, when i tried everything in the device manager, all my discs, the display adaptor under advanced settings in the properties for changing your resolution etc is all ???????? where my TNT card shows its bios and chipset details and what the card is. it sdoesn't even recognise it's a x1600 pro or ati card.

also, it now won't display any pictures except the windows xp start screen. i can hear windows and the hdd load but it won't display.

also the transistors on the bac of the card are red hot after 2 mins, which again, i think is wrong.

have now put a RMA into scan.
