    New Year, New PC!

Right with it being a new yeah and not having bought a full new system in about 3 years i've been given the go a head to treat myself by the Mrs for my bday.

So im looking at knocking myself up a nice new gaming rig

So what you think of the specs?

Im a bit wary of a few points, such as the HDD running them in RAID0 will it be that much better than just using the Raptor out of my current PC?

Also ill me taking my 550watt PSU from current PC and using that - its some hyper one or something has a silly window in it and a large 120mm fan.

I also am really worried about going with TFT as im a big gamer (and CS:S players here ) and love my current 21" Trinitron CRT, i cant afford to spend £300+ on a 22" TFT only to find its bad for gaming :/

Any help would be REALLY great guys as im looking to place this order ASAP.

    • Flewis's system
      • Motherboard:
      • MSI P45 Platinum
      • CPU:
      • Intel E7200 @ 3.5GHz
      • Memory:
      • 4x1GB Corsair PC5400 @ 720MHz 4-4-4-11
      • Storage:
      • 2 x Samsung Spinpoint 500GB
      • Graphics card(s):
      • 2 x ATI HD4850
      • PSU:
      • 750W Silverstone Zeus
      • Case:
      • AOpen H700B custom watercooled
      • Operating System:
      • Vista HP x64
      • Internet:
      • Plusnet fibre
Firstly get the corsair ram with 4-4-4-12 timings, its only like £5 more.

Unless you really want it the 680 mobo may be too much (unless you want to run SLI or CF), the gigabyte DS-3 would do you fine and is only £75.

Keep your monitor if you can put up with the size, otherwise upgrade but good monitors are pricey.

U may want to get another cooler cos the stock one is rubbish, the arctic freezer 7 pro is only £15 and would allow you to easily overclock the 6600 to 3GHz maybe even keeping stock voltages.

Well i could really do with a TFT for when im off to lans, plus im looking at giving up my old PC for the mrs.

So an option is to go for a small 17" tft that will be fine for lans, but when i've been looking at the prices it almost seems pointless to go for a 17"

The motherboard is a little OTT, but im unsure at which other options i have, i need dual ethernet (have 2xCable modems) and onboard sound would be good but not needed - i'll go check out the board you recommend now.

    Cheers

The VX922 is a lovely screen, you won't be dissapointed...apart from the brightness being quite high, not sure what Viewsonic were thinking when they did that blunder.

It's a brilliant screen, I've been playing loads of games on it for the past 3 months and nothing has messed up with ghosting etc. I also watch a lot of films and do word and other work on it, it's a brilliant screen.

If you really like your CRT though, get a fast response time 17" tft for lans, they are smaller and lighter.

I'd recommend the VX922 to any gamers to be honest, it is great.
