    IIRC a 3 pin one would go in a fan controller to allow you to adjust its speed & hence voltage. They only have 2 wires you need a 3rd one to be able to control it from the BIOS if you were plugging into a motherboard header. The 4 pin molex ones she sells are fixed to run at 7 volts

    The 3rd wire is the rpm sensor.
