There you go. Sorry, you beat me to it
There you go. Sorry, you beat me to it
Yep
Ok, well that's all for now.
Like I say, if anyone can find me a better spec than this, go for it.
Shuttle XPC SN27P2 AM2 Barebone System £303.93
AMD AM2 Athlon64 X2 5000+ Dual Core OEM £185.93
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £152.74
2 x 1Gb sticks PC5300 Patriot Signature Line RAM £125.00
Sony AW-G170AB2 18x DVD±RW x12 Ram Dual Layer DVD-Writer - (Black) OEM £19.96
SHIPPING £18.00
TOTAL: £787.56
Bear in mind:
- Must be Shuttle-sized
- Must have a PCI slot
- Must be a single slot graphics card.
- That RAM is final, already got it ordered, and I have everything not on the list.
Anyone who can fulfill this criteria is challenging Tim for a free pint
if your looking at ssf, then i'm personaly of the belief that a mobile CPU is better, as its easyer to not have too worry about the sound that will ensue from the heat.

and a penitum-m motherboard such might be a better bet, as you wont have such horrible sound, or have to run without the side panel.

No offense, but;
Sorry, I do keep saying it though.
I'm not worried about sound tooo much, I'll do some swapping of fans if it's too loud.
My speakers will drown it out most of the time.
This doesn't have a PCI slot, and like I say, the RAM is final so I can't change that.
Thanks for the ideas though, keep them coming!
PLEASE, if you are going to post me a spec, read the criteria I posted in post number 50. It will save you wasting time looking at the wrong things. Thanks for the suggestions, though!

its not much bigger than the newer shuttles at all!
The original SV24, was tiny, but since then they've been growing larger and larger.

32.5 x 22.0 x 21.0
vs
39.3 x 26.3 x 21.6
Not too bad, but still a bit bigger. I'll draw up a template of the footprint later today, put it on my desk, and see what I think.
Right, off to do some work.
I'll check back on the thread later!
Cheers for the ideas so far, much appreciated.
if you live near london, drop by somewhere like yoyo in tottenham court road, they have the cases in the flesh on display, so you can see what you really think of it.
I have stopped using my shuttle SN41G because its just too loud!

Can i have a link to where you bought the 2x1gb Partiots? at £125 that is one amazing price.
I Honestly cant believe you are going to spend £180 on a AMD X2 processor...
I think your graphics card (x1950pro) is a good choice, RAM pricewise/performance is also excellent.
If you could post some links to the cases you do like it would help people in the choices for you.
I got the RAM off the for sale section of another forum.
A chap on the same forum has introduced me to the SD32G2 and SD32G5 - they have PCI as well as supporting C2D, so will have a serious look at them now and report back.
EDIT: Just had a look.
Those chassis only have a 250w PSU - is that OK for the X1950 Pro 512MB with a Conroe and the rest? I know what they say about Shuttle PSUs, and that they can be upgraded too, but still...
And they only have 2 RAM slots, so harder to upgrade there.
Only 1 hard drive slot, too.

Any idea of the sound quality on a SN37P2?
I'm thinking, if it's good enough, I won't have to bother with a sound card, could get an external TV card, and then get away with not having the PCI slot.
Sorry to be dragging this thread on, but it's alot of money and I want to get the best I can!
Plus, this isn't a very busy part of the forum, so may as well use it to provide some potentially useful information!
Hello mate,
I can't answer your questions with regards to the sound etc, but I will say that you'd do yourself far better to be getting a core2duo instead of the AMD.
I have an opty myself, so am not an Intel fanboy - they just seem to be the best bang for buck right now
With reference to the SD32G5 You talk about :-
Drive bays 1 x 5.25", 2 x 3.5" (1 internal)
So I'm assuming you could actually get two hard drives in there? Just looking at that (and I may be very wrong) one of them is basically where your floppy drive would sit?
I also just noticed you ask about power supply requirements and I'm sorry but I can't help you there either
I could get two hard drives in there, yes, but I would quite like to use the external 3.5"
I just think that if I get a Shuttle, I should get one that's going to last, in terms of upgradeablilty etc.
What do you mean upgradeability mate? A shuttle is never going to be as upgradeable as a normal pc?
I mean that I want to be able to add more RAM, have a beefy PSU should I want to add a new graphics card, stuff like that.
That Shuttle is limited to 2Gb of RAM, and has a relatively small PSU.
