Hi folks, the above cooler arrived t'other day along with my new case etc - however I havent installed it yet because i'm ill - dont want to kill my CPU by being clumsy about it!

Anyways, it weighs 480ish grams, and the max weight for a socket A cooler is 300g apparently, although it says it works with Socket A CPU's, will I risk any damage by installing it (excluding user clumsiness, naturally ) - or will it be ok, I guess what i'm asking is - assuming I put it on right, it wont fall off will it?

The maximum weight for a cooler is specified as 300g for AMD Socket 462. Special care should be
taken when moving a computer equipped with a cooler which exceeds the relevant weight limit.

So I guess if I install it in my room it'll only have to shift about 1ft to get back to its usual perch, and I *should* be ok...

Just don't go putting your box on a pogo stick and it'll be fine.

As far as I remember it doesn't use the default mounting mechanism, and even if not it's fair to assume Zalman have addressed the issue with the design of it.

The only time I really worry about HSF weight is when I'm transporting a case in a car. I always have the case positioned so that the side of the case with the motherboard mounted is flat against the back seat or boot. Having the opposite side down only stresses the motherboard more (severe flexing), and having a tower standing up generates twisting forces on the motherboard.

Yeah, I have 2 mounts to add, which are screwed into the motherboard at 2 locations each, so the load is distributed pretty well i'd expect.
