    socket 478

    Hi,
I know this is a big ask but....

I'm looking for a Socket 478 shuttle with onboard graphics and one PCI slot. Basically I want to transplant my aging P4 into it so I can use it as a server.

Anyone know of a suitable model?

    Tom

Don't think you can get a new S478 shuttle any more and they are not the best design for a server thats going to be left on. They are pretty hot and noisy.
You would be better with a uATX mobo and a decent case and power supply. All depends on your budget.

I use an SB51G as my home server and also a web server and it's reliability is top notch

It has 2x300 gig hard discs
    a 2.26Ghz P4
    a DVD burner

It also runs seti at 100% load all day every day and has been running for 3 years pretty much 24/7 with no problems

Wow that looks perfect. Do you happen to know if it supports Northwood cores? I'm guessing it should support any 478 based CPU.

    Tom.

As regards heat and noise, I'm guessing it'll put out less than a box of the same spec currently running with a Radeon 9800 Pro in it....

    Cheers....

Yes it does support Northwood (and Willamette) but only on a 533 bus. I actually have 2 SB51Gs!

The above mentioned server, and another one which has an X850Pro and a hyper-threaded 3.06Ghz P4 in it. Had it 4 years and it's still fast enough for everything I do
