Sound question
Is there a way to clone stereo sound to the rear two channels of a 5.1 sourround sound system? I have an ALC882 on board sound (i know :(, but it's a shuttle), and am using the optical out to a digital decoder of a Creative Inspire digital speaker set.
Been pondering this for a while, any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that Windows has that option. Some sound card software allow you to do it. For music, I know Foobar and Winamp has an option for it.

does anyone know if there's an iTunes add-on or little program i can install that will do it permanently?

Weird that! I had that working with my SB live 5.1 card and my Creative itrigue 5600 speakers for years and it worked fine. All i did was put the sub to "Direct" rather than "2ch -> 5.1upmix" and it worked.
But for Christmas I got an X-fi extreme music and now I can't get it to work so I'm also interested to find a way to do this :(

It's annoying isn't it?! I feel like i'm wasting 3 speakers. Does that AC3filter program do it?

Just use Foobar. It can play the itunes format I think. Its by far the best program.

uh, it won't output to the rear speakers. remember i'm using SPDIF and an ALC882 to an external decoder?

A program that works well (ie plays almost all formats) is JetAudio another is MediaMonkey I don't know if they can output to the rear speakers if other programs won't do it though...I'd have thought that would be an issue with Windows or something.
