Price check and upgrade advice pls?

Hey guys and gals,

Just wondering if someone can offer me some advice as well as a price check. Basically its been about 18 months since ive been in the PC upgrade scene. Since then I have noticed just how slow my PC is, struggling to run "newer" games. So im up for a CPU, RAM and MOBO change methinks, maybe even a new HDD and DVDRW if I can afford it.

Here is what I have, if anyone can offer approx prices as to what id get for them?

AMD64 3500+ Winchester fully boxed (not OEM)
Akasa Evo33 heatink and fan
ASrock Dual2 SATA Motherboard fully boxed
2x512MB Twinmis Dual Channel Kit (3200 stuff)
Creative Audigy 2 SB

Now then, im looking for some expert advice on stuff to replace the above. Im looking at spending no more than around £300 (ideally) inc the cash I get for the above. Whats the lark with Intel Core2Duo vs AMD's AM2 dual core? I understand that ill need DDR2 for both of them, and a decent motherboard. Basically im looking for something thats fast enough so I can play my games, and something for general everyday/entertainment use.

Id happily part with each of the above for the afforementioned prices...

Is it worth going Core2Duo or AM2? I quite fancy a change from AMD but not if it costs too much? Also what chipset motherboard should I go for?

Ive seen two bundle kits on Komplett.co.uk and im tempted to sell my computer bits and go for it!

What you guys reckon? Im not really up on Intels atm, just want whats best value for money.

The Intel one would nail the AMD one. Easily worth the £10 extra.

I wouldn't intend on overclocking it though - the 945P chipset certainly isn't as good as the 965P in the overclocking stakes - if you want to get some free performance perhaps it would be worthwhile checking out a decent 965P-based board instead of the 945P.

Go with the Intel Core 2.

Just a quick question, are you going to overclock? If so get the 6300, it has the same cache as the 6400 and can clock to the same levels saving you about £25/£30.

If not then stick with the 6400. For the extra few quid it's worth it at stock speeds.
