    PC Upgrade - To good gaming pc

    Hello all..

    I am looking to upgrade my current set-up to a good gaming rig, hopefully that will last for a while. Please let me know all comments to the below:


    Current Set-Up:

    ABit IC7 Max3 Motherboard
    P4 3.2Ghz
    1GB Corsair XMS RAM
    256MB Abit 9800XT graphics


    Proposed Rig:

    i would try to budget for 2x1mb sticks of ram.

    DS3 is a half decent board, and the i965 chipset should allow you to have a decent OC. That said, you won't get far on DDR2-5300 ram, get at least some 6400 (800mhz) stuff.

    Otherwise, I'd be tempted to suggest the 4300, as if you max out 800mhz ram with it you will be hitting 3.6ghz

    Seems fine. If you are planning on overclocking it (and you should!) the memory will most likely be the limiting factor. Some decent DDR2-800 should allow you to push it further.

    2gb is recommended for future proofing but I appreciate if you can't afford it you can't afford it. Maybe get a 1gb module and another matching 1gb some time down the line. That will still leave two slots free.
