need help setting up my memory please

Got a Gigabyte DS4, and the RAM is two gig of CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP.

My bios defaults the ram at 5-5-5-14 speeds.

Someone in another thread (cant find it now), said that they spoke to Corsair on the phone, and they said that the BIOS doesn't detect the correct speed, but you can change the speed and it won't harm the RAM.

Unfortunately I cant change it properly. When I put the first few numbers to 4-4-4-12 there is still about 5 options left that I dont know what to do with. And if I leave them on AUTO and boot up, the system is unstable.

The things I need to know are this:

ACT to ACT Delay
Rank write to READ delay
Write to Precharge Delay
Refresh to ACT delay
Read to precharge delay

What do I set those to with this ram? Also, has anyone else done this with this ram and this motherboard and got it running stable?

p.s. I know it doesn't make things much faster with a C2D, but I am having trouble with a game, and people are suggesting that RAM could be the issue. So I need to try it with my ram working at its proper speeds to start with.

What are your rams rated timing's? I suppose it would be 4-4-4-12-16. On my motherboard these are named differently to yours, but i would expect the numbers to go down from 4 to 16 just like mine. If so add 16 at the end. Some other settings could be 1T or 2T ( i would say 2T here)

The bits I couldn't do all seemed to just be numbers :( Not a number and a letter like 1T and stuff :(

As for the RAM\'s timings, all I know is that its 4-4-4-12. But according to a little program called CPU-Z, the SPD page says the RAM is 4-4-4-12 and then "Trc=22" and "Command Rate= 2T". I dunno if thats right or not really, but either way, it doesn\'t help me finish off my BIOS settings.

I\'m quite surprised there isn\'t more about this on the internet, cause this ram and motherboard is pretty common, so I expected to find lots of webpages with people talking about what all the settings should be.

Leaving things on auto should not cause instability.

Having higher numbers for the timings will definitely not be causing instability.

However you should download and run memtest86 to check your ram for errors. And what is your PSU?

With everything on AUTO there is no instability. But its not running at the speed I paid for. I also have a game which I am having trouble with, and I want to eliminate my ram speed as a possibility. I also need to know how to change the settings because one solution to that game, was "Underclocking" your RAM. I dont even know how to set its normal speeds... so I can't underclock it until I find its normal speeds.


As for the higher numbers, that did cause instability, but I am pretty sure that is to be expected if not all the numbers where entered correctly.

Lastly the PSU is a 620W Corsair HX PSU.

I will run MemTest soon, but I'm pretty sure its fine. I just need to know what numbers to use in the BIOS.
