Hiper Modular, easy to replace fan?

Got a Hiper 580W Modular more than a year ago. The fan is getting really noisy.

I have 2 proposal so far:
1) To stop the fan with something
-> Will that overheat the PSU?
2) Replace the noisy fan (the smaller exhaust fan which i think is 9cm)
-> Warranty is not really an issue, I'm not sure if its easily replaceable?
3) Try to squeeze some WD-40 into the bearing?
-> WD-40 is flammable!

If you take the psu apart, be very careful that you dont get a shock from any current left in there.

Stopping the fan will probably make it overheat when it is under load and end up killing it to death.

You could source a new fan and carefully replace it.

WD-40 isnt for a fan.

So theres no warranty left then?

I've taken mine apart and replaced the bigger fan. You'll need to cut the case to run cables out as the fans in there are 2 pin not 3 pin. If you want to do a real job on it I'd cut some cables and solder it all up right so you can use the PSU's speed controller.

You can get away with no exhaust fan, but your main fan will run faster, and remember the little one runs for five mins after shut down to reduce temps.

It does have warranty left but it cost a lot to ship back to repair it, while itself is not really faulty just noisy.

Its not like I am shutting down that machine (it runs 7x24). May be I'll stop that fan but add another quite fan (outside the psu) to suck air out?

Try just blocking the fan for a bit and running prime95/3Dmark see how hot it gets.

PSU fan wires are usally (from what I've noticed) soldered onto the PCB, so if you're really handy with the soldering iron and you don't care about the warranty then go for it, if not, contact Hiper and see about an RMA if your warrenty hasn't already expired.

Failing that, buy a new PSU. It's the only options I can see.

As for WD40, boom. Compressed air might blow out any dust caught up around the motor but I wouldn't bet on it.

Not for the smaller 40mm fan in the back of the PSU.

As it's still in warranty I would recommend you contact Hiper. This is just in case you decide to sell it later.

If you're sure you won't be selling it then try to replace the fan.
