    Printers?

I have not had a printer for many years so i have no idea what to look out for in todays models.

I run a club and am looking for a small office type setup with the ability to scan/copy documents as well as decent colour prints and cheap cartridges.

    What models would you recommend?

id get the scanner and the printer seperate. go for a cheap epson printer like the R220, its a 6 color printer and photo quality is very good. but the deal breaker is the price of the cartriges. iv seen them online for 88p each.

I've got a HP PSC myself

I've had epsons before and I always find that if you don't use the printer in ages the printer heads always blocks up, which in it's self to cure is a pain in the rear

Epson have some of the cheapest cartridges. Cartidges for the new Epson DX5000 are around £3.48 (IIRC) from Scan. Prices should drop.

All printer's I've bought have been Epson and they're not bad IMO overall.

just my two cents, i always try to go for a horizontal-feed printer, as i find the paper always goes askew if its a vertical feed one

I wouldnt have a Epson if it was free.
Canon and HP are the only 2 I would consider buying. Canon's customer service alone is worth it.

I am going to stay away from All-in-One now. My Epson refuses to scan because one of my colour catridge went empty (or even print in B&W). I hear this is not unusual for All-In-One. And when the printer stopped working, the scanner had to go with it. If your budget is £80 though, I think that all-in-ones are still your best bet. I think that Canon are in general well regarded. I just bought one of their scanners (not decided if I am going to get a replacement printer yet). I don't think that you'll be able to find a good printer and scanner separately for that cost any other way.

To be fair, I do think that Epson printers do make very good prints when it works. But 1st party catridges are expensive, and they are clamping down on third party ink makers.

What about the message some Canon's display if you've been using remanufactured cartridges - it states the warranty has been invalidated.

    That put me off Canon.

Edit: I've just bought an Epson D88 for a friend. Cheap cartridges and ok print quality.

lol - I think I could ignore that for half price carts.
    My friend's just bought a Pixma MP600 - less than £100+VAT.

An amazing machine; I don't think an all-in-one could get much quicker or quieter, and the quality is superb.

It will definitely be my next printer.
