G.Skill RAM- any good?

Hi,
I've been looking all over the place for some reasonably priced RAM, and I stumbled upon this on the bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G-SKILL-2GB-2-...QQcmdZViewItem.

Has anyone heard of G.Skill, and any idea how good they are for overclocking a E6300?

I don't know how 'good' it is, but I've not had any errors yet with mine at the rated speeds

Well I'm in the same boat as you and we need a sticky for what ram works with what motherboard for overclocking. Anyway I'm observing what's good for the P5B deluxe wifi and commando boards which may be different to your choice, and G.Skill can be hit and miss with these boards (so I've read).

whoa... same setup as me excalibur.. I'm definately decided on the ASUS Deluxe WiFi board. Be interesting to see how far we can push our E6300's

Sounds like I'll be buying a few sticks from that guy

Looks like I'd be buying everything else I need at the end of febuary

With vat and import duty, it works out at about £180 ish. As it is pretty much bog standard ram, I would personally go for this, which is slightly cheaper and better latency, and you dont have to buy blind off ebay.

Well I'm open minded, I just want the most reliable, great for overclocking, and cheapest price for ram.......

But Corsair dominator is the safest bet I've come across so far......Scan (and others) recommend it, so I'll probably buy that, shame though if some other brand will do the job £30 plus cheaper.
Other brands mentioned as excellent by others:- are cellshock and OCZ, erm team? So if I can get a good deal, will go for them.

I agree, this Corsiar is good RAM at a good price, from a reliable supplier, and with lifetime warranty.

The suff from eBay might not be genuine, might not have any backup or support, and seems to have the option of a 3 year warranty for "only $39.99".......
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

i wouldnt bother with the dominators, theyre not £30 better. Ram doesnt get that hot and doesnt need those silly heatsinks. Also if u get a big cpu heatsink the ram might get in the way and keeping ur proc cool is much better than keeping ram cool.

If you want a better than good overclock, then you are far better off getting micron d9's. The cell shocks, g skill hz black, team X and a few others all have them. The only negative side to then is they are all over £200. But microns are the best or so every one else seams to say.

erm maybe yellow beard can explain "why buy dominator" in the corsair catagory if you repost there.

The heatsinks are indeed pretty much for show, but that's not the reason to buy higher specced ram, it's the fact it's been bin tested to work at better ratings.

Well I think there are different approaches:- The guys who treat overclocking as a hobby and have plenty of dosh and the also rans. There are quite a few people (maybe many) that would like "nearly as good" overclock on an E6300, a lot cheaper, otherwise a person might as well save the money on memory and put it towards an e6600 and overclock it less to get similar performance.

I'm sure some one here has worked it out on how to get to say e.g. 3.2ghz on a C2D the cheapest way on e.g. P5B deluxe wifi.

That looks like a bad deal to me....add on the postage and you are almost at UK prices. If the tax gets added coming into the UK then you are over.

I would buy the CAS4 G.Skill which is only a few quid more expensive. Overclockers sell it at competitive prices although some people don't rate them.

I have G.Skill GBPK PC6400 CAS4 RAM in my P5B Deluxe and it works fine. I did RMA the first pair I received as they would only run at CAS5, I got excellent response from G.Skill and they replaced my sticks with some really ace ones which run at tighter timings and overclock well too, no questions asked.

Personally I would buy G.Skill again for the good support, they have their own support forum at Xtreme SYstems and their techs regularly post optimised BIOS settings and overclocking info for their RAM and specific motherboards, check out here :

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...play.php?f=185

I got a quick response and turnaround from them.

Personally I would steer clear of ebayers in US for stuff like this.

Cheers

Chks

***That looks like a bad deal to me....add on the postage and you are almost at UK prices. If the tax gets added coming into the UK then you are over.***

....and also getting it from others in the EU and sometimes you are paying higher VAT e.g memory-configurator.com in Ireland charges 21% VAT, so it looks like UK buyers have to pay it.

Germany and Spain 16% and Luxembourg 15%, so in theory buying ram should be cheaper in those countries.
