Im still running my A64 4000+@2.6GHz, but im straining to upgrade to C2D, Rainbow six vegas kinda underlined the need. I'll probably hold out until Vista later this year then get a complete new rig.

what do you think the AM3 chips will be like compared to the Intel offerings?

I bought a Shuttle and a X2 5000+ when I was in America, the processor cost £110. Bargain! (*I Think*)

The thing is - you can buy the Intel chips now and have been able for a while I don't think they are going to give up the performance lead that easily.

AMD are in a painful situation with the price war they have unleashed which to be honest is doing nothing but hurt them

    Currently got:
    E6600 - from a P4 3 ghz
    and
    QX6700 - from an Athlon FX-53

Unfortunately the latter's currently in an EVGA 680i so I'm in a world of pain with it. The former's running nicely in an Asrock Dual VSTA 775 cheap 'n' cheerful.

    There's probably a moral there... :|

I upgraded from an old (but damned reliable) Athlon XP 3000+ setup. Thanks to ASRock, and this motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...l=775Dual-VSTA I now have an E6600 running with all my old components (even the old 1GB DDR Corsair TwinX RAM). Nice cheap upgrade.

holding out really, currently my 4600+ @ 2.8Ghz does everything i throw at it nicely..

Even the 2P Opteron in the lab holds out well versus the new Kentsfield those Materials Engineering people got for their FT-MS.

The next upgrade will probably be a 8800GTX + a decent 24'' screen or the R600..

Will hold out on CPU and stuff until they seriously really hold back any of my video cards..
    Me want Ultrabook

Upgraded from an Opteron 146 (@2.7GHz) with 2GB RAM. Am now on an E6600 also with 2GB RAM. Other than the mobo, CPU and RAM, everything else stayed the same.

The Opteron is now my machine at work, though I'm tempted to get one of the few remaining S939 dual-cores for it.

Wouldn't have upgraded for a little while had I not had the chance to use this lot at work.

Had an XP2400+ before and wanted something new. Managed to find £700 and did a full system upgrade!

extra machine build - no brainer in choosing the processor as core2duo - although a bit annoyed that E6600 was too costly and had to settle for E6400.
However, feel no need at present to upgrade other machines - opteron 165; AMD643200+

Upgraded from a P4 3.0C to a E6600. Huge jump. I did mess around with various (single core) A64s as secondary boxes but they were not different enough to be worth replacing the P4 as main box. The value X2s came too late. Now wondering what K8L will be like, how much it will cost, and when more affordable quads appear...

other than that it performs well but isnt as fast as i thought it would be. (excellent video encoding/gaming perf but std desktop use inst as fast as i thought)
