    Ram Matching

    Hi all,

I have two types of ram installed, both OCZ Gold PC3200, but the stated timmings dont match, what problems does this cause and does anyone know how i can make them match for best results. Can give you more info on system if needed (appologies as this is my first use of any forum!!)

    Thanks

You may want to speak with an OCZ representative if you have issues with or questions about their memory. Not to be rude but this section is specifically for supporting Corsair products.

As to your question, I would suggest you disable the SPD and set your memory timings manually. This way, the bios will not have to try to accomodate 2 different types of memory with different SPD parameters.

Any BIOS should automagicly run at the lowest SPD settings of any installed RAM. You shouldnt have any issues due to timings. If this is the case, as Mr Yellowbeard said, set it manualy.
Failing that, update your BIOS, but its fairly rare to have issue's with branded RAM, even when mixed

Basically, the motherboard will automatically set the timings up to give the best performance, so there shouldn't be any need to worry

First, read your MOBO manual. It will tell you "how" to make adjustments to your bios. Next, find the terms in the bios that you do not understand and either Google them or take a look at www.rojakpot.com .

The others are likely correct here in that your MOBO will set the timings properly in the bios. However, when you mix 2 different sets of memory, they have 2 different SPDs (Serial Presence Detect). This means, instead of 1 set of parameters to consider, your MOBO+bios now have to consider 2 sets of parameters and try to find settings that both sets of memory can run. If this works, all is well. If your system fails to do this properly, then you can possibly get instabilities. This falls under the catagory of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" in most cases. However, I still say to be safe, set the 4 primary memory latencies manually to 2.5,3,3,7.
