    any chance we'll see these inside laptops?

    talks about segates new 15,000 RPM hard drives which are 2.5"

    the article only mentions servers as far as what the drives are aimed at, but i was wondering if they might eventually become available for laptops ?

    (cause that would be sweet)

    I dunno, at those RPMs you'd get a huge gyroscopic force. You can already feel it strongly with 3.5" 7200 RPM drives in external enclosures, and I'd guess you'd get a similar effect in a laptop, until the heat caused it to blow up.

    I doubt it because of the noise and power consumption. You could probably put one in a laptop, you just wouldn't want to

    I think that laptops are more likely to head in the direction of flash drives.

    yeah your right ajones. doesnt seem to be any indication of wether they will be SCSI or SATA either.

    Does anyone know why its taking manufacturers so long to come up with a desktop 15,000rpm drive? i mean.. theyve been available for SCSI for a long, long time now (remember a review of one when Quake3 was the big thing, and i guess its been longer than that).

    Just low demand I guess, only one manufacturer does a 10k drive. despite the tech being there for higher speeds.

    Finance probably - good 15,000rpm SCSI drives aren't cheap, and then of course the size will further decrease over that of 10,000rpm drives - a 500gb Raptor would be a nice sight

    15,000rpm 2.5" drive. Scratching my head over that one a bit. Anyone any ideas of where it's going to be aimed at?

    Since the interface is SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) it's probably aimed at the high denisity (ie 1u) and blade servers, where space is at a premium.
