Thinking about adding some more RAM to my existing system

Hi all,

I recently realised that I only have 1Gb of RAM in my current system and being as I want to upgrade to Vista in the near future, I thought I'd go about upgrading my RAM to 2Gb too.

My motherboard is an ASUS P4C800-E and I have Corsair TwinX memory, unfortunately for me I can't remember what speed the RAM is! I do know that it's 2 x 512mb sticks. I'm hoping to add another two 512mb sticks to my setup but I'm wondering if the RAM needs to be the same?

What is the best way (if any) for me to find out which RAM I currently have without opening up the system?

Wouldn't CPU-z do the trick?

Not a good idea to 'mix and match' 2 different brands IMO

Ye you could use CPU-z or even use the Corsair RAM Guy or the Crucial Memory adviser (they guarantee compatibility afaik)

Surprised that you're not running DDR400 to be honest.

I am too now that you mention it, how do I go about setting my current RAM to a higher speed?

BIOS will probably have an AUTO setting in the RAM bit..

Yeah it's set to Auto at the moment, I switched it to manual but then although it lets me select the RAM speed (400 is an option), it also asks me stuff like CPU voltage so I thought I'd better not.

Oh yeah ignore me too as my stuffs DDR2
