OK it's got a lot worse now! I am really bad at all this lol, I can't seem to clear the cosmos. I have done it the correct way but the system just hangs and does not make any post! all connectors are in properly cpu is mounted properly. I get the error message 'CPU INIT' on the lcd poster, it does not flash, I get no beep codes.

This is just getting stupid now

Did u move the jumper b4 pressing the clear cmos button. ???. jumper is next to button. Normal position is with jumper to edge of mobo - In this position pressing the clear cmos button does nothing.

    Correct procedure is
    1) Turn of PC & unplug power
    2) Move jumper - this enables button (u can leave it in this position , but it is easy to press clr cmos button instead of reset.
    3) Press Button for around 10seconds.
    4) Move jumper back (optional)
    5) plug power back in
    6) Cross fingers & fire up.

If above still gives issues remove power & remove battery(push at 1 side)

    luck

Also I have noticed that when I power on it starts for about 10 secs then re starts, then after that it is fine.

All it does is hang and I can't reset it!
I have reset it a few times before and no problems.

ps. Have tried without; RAM (tried different slots as well)
and have just had 24 and 8 pin connected.

To make it clear the system just hangs no signal is seen, lcd poster normally go's like this on power on : vga bios, bios then time

    Message is seen 'CPU INIT'

Yes it is but this time it does not flash. The cooler is mounted properly, I am sure, I have re-seated the cpu a few times too.
I have even removed everything including the cpu and powered on to reset it. After that I still get the same problem when I power on. It is strange because I managed to reset the cosmos
before when I had 'hanging'. It is very odd,I cannot reset the cmos

Just thought I would add that the RAM sticks are not getting hot at all (I can't feel any heat), the north bridge and cpu is getting hot. Does this mean that the RAM volts are too high? but does not explain why I can't reset CMOS.

?? you don't power on to reset it. power should be disconected.

    What position is that jumper??

I have read the manual and have done the reset the proper way. It's just I have tried to reset everything another way by removing the cpu.
I have tried to clear the CMOS with the on board switch, I assure you I am doing it right, I have done it before and it was fine.

1)Have u tried using a single module i either of the 2 slots nerest the cpu ??
    2) have you unplugged everything, flipped out the battery & pressed the clear cmos button. Try leaving the battery out for 10 inutes or so. if you boot go into bios load bios defaults save & exit. Then reboot again & change your vdimm to whatever your HZ needs.

Just to say thanks for all the help and your ideas
Umm I have tried the first one but not the second, so I will give it a go.

And plus my m8 has a ds4 that I could try my comp bits in as mine may by a cmos error!

It is not the memory, because I booted first time with it, and I didn't change any of the memory settings to something stupid.
But ya I will give it a go. What is strange is that about 10 secs after I power on the pc turns off on its own then restarts once the fans stop spinning. It does this every time
But I am quite confident it will boot with the ds4.

Plus I had a feeling that this mobo was not quite right when I started things off (funny RAID conflicts ect), but at the time I just thought it was settling in or something, looks like another RMA for me.

Is normal on this mobo & bios, mine does exactly the same. It doesn't turn off it's checking info , it then revs up again & boots.

It does this especially if u have been into bios & changed settings... or have just cleared cmos.

How odd so my mobo seems to be stuck in some sort of mobo suspended animation?

It just keeps on going lol, I left it for about 3 hours and it did nothing. (hanging that is) if it is the mobo which I think it is should I RMA with scan or get a replacement from asus?
I have only every RMA'ed a psu before so...

cus I really want a working commando as it is such a super mobo to play with. And not having it is starting to depress me . OOO commando how I miss you, come back to me
