Laptop help please

Hi everyone,

I've always been a PC guy and built my own but now I'm in the market for a laptop.

It all just seems very confusing.

It seems like the difference between some £600 laptops and some £1200 is nothing more than an extra 20gb hard drive space, I'm thoroughly confused!

If anyone could reccomend me some decent laptops for around the £6/800 mark I'd be thoroughly grateful!

With the £1000+ laptops you get one of two things, either something the size and power of a desktop, or something small.

I opted for a Samsung Q30 a year ago (£1200) which came with a second large battery, it still goes 7 hours or so with the two batteries on moderate use.

So, are you looking for a Laptop or a Portable Laptop?

Ahh I see.

I'm not really interested in it being small, it's possibly actually going to replace my desktop (as now most of my gaming is done on the 360) so really I need it for listening to music, browsing the net and viewing pics/vids on really.

That's about it.

Looks pretty good but once you get it to the same spec as the Acer one I posted you're talking £1200!

The thing that is always worth considering when buying a laptop is whether you really need it, or just want it because it *might* be convenient at some point in the future.
If you just want the ability to use a computer in two different locations, it can b cheaper just to get two computers...
Finally, if it turns out that you will be lugging it about a lot, it is probably worthwhile considering spending more & getting an ultraportable. I've had to lug my work laptop to client sites before & it starts to get very tedious especially if you've lots more to carry. You either end up with two rucksacks, or carrying you laptop in the bag with everything else. Dell latitudes at least don't like this treatment as the screen ands up with scuff marks from rubbing against the keys & other parts.
