    Go slowly in increments.

Have a torch handy for if (when?) you need to reset the CMOS.

Check constantly for instability, especially when you start to feel you're reaching a limit.

I'll leave the rest to others.

I'm thinking so, yes... it's kind of a critical part of the whole process.

While overclocking is generally a very basic task, you do need a certain level of knowledge to go about it properly. It's not an acquired art, but, it's not for those ignorant to it either.

I'd hold back until you've unknowingly piled more and more knowledge on yourself. You'll know when the time is right.
