thermal gloop
gonna build an amd system tomorrow and ive never built one before all ive ever done is p3/4 and cellys and i didnt really need it
will i need thermal gloop on my cpu ? gonna be an amd xp2500 ?
and also i wil be runnin a 1ghz old school tbrid for a while before i get it all up and running, these burn hotter, again will i need to buy any for this?

just get some Arctic silver, should last you a couple of years depending on how many systems you are building, using a thermal compound like artic silver is much better than the piece of carp thats stuck to the bottom of new heatsinks as it will allow heat transfer to occur better so the system will run cooler

Aye, if you dont use any thermal paste or a thermal pad on the P4, Athlon, AthlonXP and even Duron expect your temperatures to sky rocket even with a decent'ish cooler. The reason for this is (I think) the fact that there is never a perfect contact between the CPU and Heatsink. Lapping helps but you cant lap an exposed core (like the AMD series minus the 64bit chips).
