8800GTX Problem.

Hi all,

I was playing WoW earlier, and the PC just froze up, music juddered a bit, and then a bsod flashed up and it restarted. Now, it would appear this is a common enough problem with these cards, especially while playing WoW, amongst other games, i spotted this thread over on the main nvidia forum, and they havent found a solution yet, so I wondered if you lot had any ideas, Ive done all that the thread linked below has suggested, to no avail.

Can anyone offer any assistance with this, my PC is (all at stock) -

Core 2 Duo X6800
BFG 8800GTX 768MB
OCZ Gold DDR2 PC2-8800 2GB
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe mobo
OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU
Fans on everything, temps are all fine...

Oh, god ..... don't tell me this. I'm upgrading to an 8800GTX to stop that crashing happening!!!

If the drivers are buggy, then the drivers are buggy

I'm afraid the best you can do is to wait for them to be updated, which they will do eventually for a game as popular as WoW and with that new a card.

They still have some bugs with older games that were never fixed (NWN) but newer ones should be better.

Hmmm, I installed an 8800GTX last week and have racked-up a silly amount of WoW time since (damn expansion ).....not had a single issue yet....rock stable.

I am running the latest (97.92) detonators and the latest DirectX redist

I had a quick read of the thread you linked to, I would hazard a guess that most of the people in that thread have different issues.....most are reporting completely different symptoms.

I only saw the BSOD reports of the nvidia.dll file, which does mean it's either a driver or a gfx card that's at fault most of the time.

I was using the latest nvidia drivers (Version: 97.92), and I've put the ones that came on the BFG disk back on, and all is well...
