It's really up to you. If your spending this much on a rig, wouldn't it be a shame to get a 8800GTX, when a R600 is better?

If i was you, id get that X1950Pro, then wait for R600. it should be out in march, so it's only 1 month after SC.

Iam biased towards ATI, i won't own another Nvidia card, as every one ive had since my Ti4600 has been disappointing.

If you want a 8800GTX, then by all means get one, theres no doubt there very quick..........

Yep, the Monkeylord's look cool, there 1 of the Cybran experimental units, from what ive heard, there very cool. Not as cool as the Galactic Colososus though. He's one of the Aeon units. It's a 40 storey robot, with lazers for eyes, and gravity guns on it's hands. I was checking unit specs the other day, and this bad boy has 240,000 hit points, which is wayyyy more than anything else.

Here is a cool link on the units:

I thought NVidia based cards we're better for viewing HD material, anyone know more on that? If that's just hearsay or NVidia hype then yeah I'll get an X1950 now and wait for the R600 release, but I need a card that will be excellent for both gaming and HD viewing.

The last NVidia card that I had was the Geforce3Ti500, everything else since then has been a Radeon.
I check SCU daily and know all about the upcoming units, thanks anyway.

Just wondering if you are planning watching the HD material on your 2405 or you have a seperate TV to watch on? Its just that the 2405 doesnt support HDCP, so anything that uses HDCP wont play properly (in theory).

I know my 2405 doesn't support HDCP but my plasma which will also be connected to my rig does and I watch all my HD stuff on that.
Anyway, the HD material that I would be watching doesn't have HDCP in it, like 1080i/h.264 n such, thanks anyway.

I grabbed the beta of Supreme Commander the other day and was surprised 2 see it ran ok on my current system spec, granted it slowed down a bit the more units that we're built and memory usage was insane (800MB+), the maps are absolutely gigantic and a battle can take ages to do, I've mastered how the shields work now and know they are completely useless against experimental tech4 units, the resource gathering is also poor mind, not like the insane amounts you could get with ta, I suppose you could get loads if you spend 5+ hours on it. Oh and no Air construction units like the ones you had on ta, which is a shame.

The UEF Fatboy's are cool albeit slow, still, the best things come to those who wait.

That said, I'm no longer in a rush to build my new gaming rig in time for the Official release of Supreme Commander due in 18 days, so I think that I’ll wait till the R600's release in march, saves me buying a mid-range card in February, then the R600 in march.

The beta will tide me over till March, gives me time to improve on my sc skills:
I got overrun by 1 easy-AI on my first 2 battles, 1st time by a Aeon Galactic Colossus (my god those things are powerful and heavily armoured), then by a Cybran Monkeylord, poof went my commander and the bulk of my base when he died and detonated a nuke, heh.

I caved and brought the game anyways, arrived a day before release date.
I was a bit disappointed that there we're only 6 missions for the UEF campaign mind, I know there are 3 sides like, but another mission or so would have been nice, especially to have been able to build the UEF Fatboy in the final mission, currently on m4 of the AEON. Maybe we'll get to build the Fatboy in the UEF Expansion pack missions?

The game runs just fine on my current rig which had made me revaluate my upgrade spec, I would be buying into quad core now, I'm going to buy an Intel Duo E6600 Conroe and O/C the hell outta it.

Still pondering on either an 8800GTX or 2800XTX card, all depends on how well each work with Vista and their pricing.

I have that CPU, One Seagate & a 8800. Could you please talk with my Wife. I got in trouble for building this damn thang.....Lmao! The CPU is a wonder, very fast, responsive & smooth. Clock it to about 3 Gigs, no need for more. Very stable. Liguid Cooled straight off! The hard drive is okay, but it's better ones out there. Like the Western Digital / RaptorX / 150GB. Get you a couple of those. Your Rig will run much better. Gonna install two of them on Wednesday. I have Vista Premium installed, went in without any hitches. Had to Update a couple of things. I burn alot of Movies & Play alot of games. Some games you won't be able to play. Most you will. Here's a link that will help you with alot! Enjoy your ner Rig Bruh! Will sind you that link in a little bit!

The 8800 works great! It will drop down in price in a couple of months most likely!

The XFX 7600 is a great card. A friend has one, loves it. I recommend that one.

Maybe you might want to take a look at this cooling system. Zalman Reserator1 Plus Complete Water Cooling System. Works great!

I did originally have twin 150GB raptors for my upgrade spec but was told the noise was excessive, but now I've just been told by Clunk that they wouldn't be so bad in my current Lian-Li PC-V2100 case due to the fact they would sit on plastic runners and the drive area is pretty much boxed in.

I need a second opinion on this (no offence Clunk) and also bare in mind that I'll have a Thermochill PA120.3 Radiator installed in the lower section of my case so one hdd cage will be removed and the remaining one will be pushed forward in the case as the Rad is quite big.

michigantoga - It looks like you are trying to get your post count up rapidly, you should really read this entire thread before going over old stuff. I'm currently using the Reserator1 for my current rig and I have been told by some watercooling professionals that the Reserator probably couldn't cope with the heat load of an Overclocked dual core cpu and an 8800GTX in tow.
Doesn’t matter now anyways as I’ve already got the cooling system for the new upgrade.

    Why would I choose a 7600 over the 8800GTX?
If I was on a budget maybe, but i'm not.

    3Gigs of Memory you say?
I'll buy 2GB and if it isn't enough then I'll either buy another 1GB or 2GB at a later date.
