It's AM2 only but they do a FX62 for AM2 which at looking at the specification seems to be very similar either way must people will tell you to go for Intel Core 2 Duo and not for AMD

I'm still on 939 to and was looking at X2 4800 or Opteron 185 but I and every other 939 owner would like is some thing like this X2 6000

Was looking at the prices of AM2, and the FX-74 is less than 400quid, not bad.

This 6000+ is a little overpriced at the mo, id expect it to fall about 50quid less than the FX-74, after all it's not got an unlocked multi.

Also scan has it wrong, it's 3.0Ghz, not 2.8.

Can anyone confirm you need 2 FX-7X chips in a Quad FX M/B, I have not read a comment advising it will work or not?

I'm sure you do, unless like with Intel Xeon boards you can run with a single processor? I'd hate to think of the performance hit though..

If you could run a single cpu I cannot see why you would have a performance hit, if you look at the nForce 680a SLI layout http://img.hexus.net/v2/cpu/amd/QuadFX2/680a-big.jpg
assuming you did not need to use the socket on the 'left'.

But even if you can use a single CPU the M/B are not cheap.

I must admit with all of the questions surrounding QuadFX I would take my money to the Intel Camp - I've been mightily impressed with the T2500 in my laptop (2x2Ghz) which has coped with everything I have thrown at it...

Especially as e4300 is sooo cheap now...
