Basically I just received my 4 box set and the first disk locks up when playing and stutters but plays fine in the player downstairs. Now which drive should I get? Or are IDE drivers alot better (would prefer sata for the cable)?

The only benefit to SATA is the simpler cabling, no speed benefits. The only advantage to IDE is price.
Which drive though? They are all fairly the same price anyways.
Any one should do, its just a dvd drive.
When yousay it plays fine down stairs, do you mean that is in a stand along DVD player?
I doubt it is the drive itself that is causing the stutters, more likely to be the playback software. Especially if it reads other disks without issue.
You could try a DVD lens creaning disk first too. It is possible thats whats causeing problems. But then that would probably happen on all disks you tried.
I got a Samsung SH-S183A SATA DVD dual sided writer from SCAN for !18 and it works great! http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=368150
I also have a IDE DVD dirve on the same machine..... Pioneer DVR-111 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=401076
Seems strange that chip suppliers like Intel are doing their utmost to get rid of IDE support but drive manufacturers seem to be really slow in bringing out SATA CD or DVD drives.
oops
