Recommendations here are from the very high (expensive) end to the very low (cheap) end - lets face it if you are spending £55 on a 5.1 system, that is less than £10 per speaker, and you cannot really expect great audio quality at such a price.

If audio quality is the priority, you will get better in a 2.1 than an equivalently priced 5.1 - simple economics.

For really good audio quality at a reasonable price, I recommend the Altec Lancing MX5021 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=112146 , or spend a bit more and go for the Altec Lancing FX6021. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=115456

These are also supposed to be very good, but maybe a bit expensive.

If you want good PC speakers, these or the Altec Lansings would be your best bet. They will actually sound good, but you pay the price...

As BlindMelon7 said, we'd need to know your budget to make the best suggestion

i got some logitech Z-2300's last month,
there a great 2.1 set up.

they are THX certifed and the qualite is great as well as the build, I opted for a 2.1 setup cos of the space and a 5.1 were impractical for my set up.

    got for £99 from www.novatech.com

    hope this help a little

I just ordered a pair of Logitech Z-4 2.1's from ebuyer anyone got any thoughts on them. Didn't want anything to expensive or big cos it's only a small flat and i don't have the room for 5.1's.

Logitech make some really decent desktop speakers - both 2.1 and 5.1 - even 7.1.

i've always thought 7.1's would be nothing more than a nuisance of wires!

Hehe ye well, it definately required A LOT of work. Especially if you want it to look clean and cover all the wires.
