    Sata DVD Drives

Hi, I am in the process of building a new rig and am looking to purchase a Samsung Sata DVDr Drive but need a few things cleared up, hopefully somebody more knowledgeable than me can help:
    a) I have a new LG Dvd-r drive which is IDE how would this work if I added a second SATA Samsung Drive to go along with it would it work ok.
    b) also having installed both these DVD-r drives how would Disc to Disc copying be with these 2 drives bearing in mind one is IDE and one is SATA.

or should I just ebay the new LG Drive and purchase 2 Sata Samsung drives.

    thanks guys n gals.

There should be no problem having one SATA and one IDE drive.
SATA only really helps at the moment with having nice thin cables.

I've got a question about this as well.
When you use a Sata HDD you need to load the drivers when installing an OS, so my question is this: Is a sata DVD a plug and play, or does it also need drivers?

Ok thanks, would it make any difference making the Sata Drive the Master and the IDE as the Slave drive, or does this only happen when using 2 IDE drives??

Master and slave are only for IDE each sata device has its own channel so no fussing with master and slave.

When I installed XP sp2 it went through as it had sata drivers so no need to press f6. The disc also booted stright from my sata DVD drive no problems.

I believe SATA is supported under XP from SP1, so you shouldn't need any additional drivers at the F6 prompt, unless you are installing SATA RAID of course.

Ok thanks for that, seems strange that Sata DVD drives have taken so long to start appearing.

It must just be the crappy MOBO's i always seem to pick then! Everytime I build a new system, i need to install the drivers. Using xp pro with service pack 1 disk,, so it can't be that.

Never mind. Thats good to know, causing i'll be looking for a new build in about may with SATA DVD, when (hopefully) vista's bugs are ironed out, and dx10 cards are cheaper!

    Cheers again

Slipstream SP2 with your existing WinXP cd and you wont ever need to install SATA drivers at the F6 prompt again. I never do.

Use nlite to do the slipstreaming, its much easier than typing the commands. You can also integrate programs and windows updates onto the cd, so your up and running instantly after a fresh install.
