Advice needed for new 775 upgrade

im looking to upgrade my AMD X2 4200+ to a Core2Duo, not sure wether to get a E6300 or E6400 yet but the main problem is the motherboard, ive read a few reveiws on several boards but for every good 1 theres a not so good 1. the main problem ive seen is with the Bios & memory compatibility. as im moving from AMD 939 im also having to upgrade to DDR2 which causes a problem if the memory i buy ends up either not compatible or needs a bios update.

thanks in advance for any light shed

It all depends how much you want to spend, and what you want to be doing with it, overclocking etc. More details needed

In the meantime, heres a light shed.

Im looking to purchase a e6400 or a e6600, and im thinking of getting the asus p5b deluxe model for mobo, as its only £120 and ive read some great reviews about it.

Jst check the mobo specs for ddr2 compatibility specs and u should be alrite.

I also feel ready for the switch to C2D, but also unsure what motherboard to go for. Would people recommend going for a 965 or 975 chipset, or even the new nvidia ones?

Not an expert but from what I've seen and read you get more bang for your bucks with a 965 mobo. I'm thinking of upgrading my rig soonish and have been looking at the Asus P5B either the plus or the deluxe but can't quite make my mind up.

The other problem for me is that I already have 2gb of PC4200 DDR2 RAM lying around so am somewhat unsure what the results of this would be if I paired it with a P5B and a C2D CPU?

Commando commando, tis a nice piece of kit, you will be impressed with. Clocks really well, looks good in a window case. Only negative is that it seems to have some temp issues with the cpu.

That ram will be fine, unless you decide to overclock, and then you are stuffed.

Do you currently have good DDR1 RAM? If so, check out these mobos:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=430006

If you have a fast PCI-E graphics card, however, the first board will not be suitable. The latter has a PCI-E slot, but I'm not sure how many lanes it has.
