    Question Opinions of possible spec

It's upgrade time! Of my existing kit I'm keeping my Tagan PSU, and, for the next couple of months my 7800GT, at which time I'll either get an 8800 or similar, or see what ATI are offering.

What do people think of the following Spec? : (as copied from Scan)

    LN16718
Antec Nine Hundred/Ultimate Gamer Case no PSU £63.95 £75.14
    LN15049
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Socket 775, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail £169.89 £199.62
    LN16492
    EVGA 122-CK-NF68 NF680i SLI, S775, PCI-E(x16), DDR2 1200/533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £152.99 £179.76
    LN14277
    2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP £149.64 £175.83
    LN13080
    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - P4 up to 4.4GHz - S775 Dual Core / Core2Duo Ready £12.49 £14.68
    LN15364
    400 Gb Samsung HD401LJ Spinpoint T, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ £72.29 £84.94
    LN17060
    LiteOn 16x DVD+/-RW/RAM SATA black drive & S/W £20.19 £23.72
    LN7120
    Mitsumi FA404M 1.44 Black FDD+Int USB2 7 in 1 Card Reader (SM/MMC/SD/CF/MD/MS) Fits in 3.5" FDD Bay £11.99 £14.09

    Net Total £653.43

    V.A.T. £116.54

Any problems or issues that stand out that you could provide some advice on ?

    Thanks!

I would change the 680i board to a 965P, far more stable. Just look at the EVGA forums.

Im guessing that you will be overclocking by the specs, so Ill agree with dratuk and say drop the 680i and get a P5B deluxe wifi and drop the 6600 and get a 4300, the money saved has half way payed for an 8800gtx

Interesting points. To be honest overclocking isn't an immediate priority, I'm just wanting to make sure I've got a good solid reliable system that will last me a few years. In the past I've always scrimped on the motherboard and I thought I'd spend a bit more on one this time - hence the choice of the above. If I was to stick with the 6600 and not be concerned with overclocking, is there a less expensive motherboard I can consider as an alternative?

And which 965P board would you recommend ? I keep hearing about the ASUS Commando...?

    Thanks!

If arent bothered about overclocking, you can save on the ram and keep the 6600. Im not sure about the cheap motherboards, to be honest. If it was me, I would get a good allrounder, thats why I recommended the P5B as it is rock solid, overclocks well, plenty of features, and if you get stuck with something, theres plenty of info and support to help you out.

The commando is dearer than the P5B! Theres a couple of people with them, see the other posts

Is the WIFI the only difference between the std P5B and the Deluxe version ? If so, I'd be happy to stick to the standard model, that's quite a saving - if it's as good quality as you suggest.

I havent had the standard P5B so cant comment on that really, other than they seem to be a great board from what Ive read.

I can, on the other hand, recommend the P5B deluxe wifi as I have had 2 of them.
