    Question which ADSL modem router?

Along with the new computer im building im going to get a new ADSL modem router. I was wondering which one people would recommend. Price wise I can go up to £80 and im not bothered with it being 802.11n as ive got 802.11g pci cards.

I have a d-link modem and a d-link router just now but under heavy load (downloading vie bit torrent) I have to pull the power on them to get them to work again.

I took my D-Link router back and swapped it for this Belkin model http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=178494. Worked first time, I'm really pleased with it.

The new speedtouch routers are really good. Particularly the 585 whcih has wireless and can be picked up for about 50 quid. The 770 is very good for the price as well allowing Voip on a hardware level

They are the main ones we stock at Zen now.

PErsonally at home I use a draytek 2600 but they cost a bit more tahn our price range and have also been discontinued

I've very pleased with my 3Com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router, I've blogged about it here:

Thanks for the advise so far.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the Linksys WAG354G-UK is like.

Don't get a Belkin or Netgear one. I have one of each and they suck.

I've had Dlink, Edimax, Netgear and now I'm using an ASUS router.

The asus has been the best for wireless strength, wireless not dropping and total number of times I've had to reboot the asus I can count on 1 hand.

I had one of those briefly, it choked under anything like bittorrent.

TBH I'd only look at broadcom chipset based routers such as:
    Netgear DG834GT
    Belkin 7633
Thomson Speedtouch 585+ v6 (which I've got and is the most stable router I've owned so far)

There's other broadcom based routers since they've brought out newer chipsets since I last looked but those three above are very common and at this point quite stable I think.

I have had 2 NetGears and early DG834G (still going strong at a friends) and now a DG834PN, plus I have installed a good 7 or 8 for friends, and I have found them all to be absolutly brilliant!

Need to make sure they don't overheat - but this is tru for all of the budget manufactuers.

Or pay more and go for Draytek...

Think it was when Netgear released a wireless network card that caused older socket A board based machines refuse too boot, and then pretended there was no issue with them, that I went off them as a company in a big way.

Curious, I have a Socket A (abit NF7-S V2 with Athlon 3200+) and the Netgear PC card works fine.... but it is a MIMO (recent) DG834PN compatible card.

Are "MIMO" ADSL routers any better with coping with 8mb connection?

MIMO is just wireless so will not make any difference to handling the actual 8 meg connection.

Dunno about the Belkin range but Netgear wireless routers have the best signal strength of any mainstream units.

I've got one and did my homework before i bought it. The reviews also say the same.

I don’t know what it is but when Ive looked at Belkin or Netgear they seem to get a lot of mixed reviews. Some people love them and others hate them, is there a reason why they seem to get 50/50 good and bad reviews.
