Help me choose a case/psu

I have my new motheboard&cpu : nf7-s and barton 2500+ and I have a choice of two cases (or rather PSUs).

Enermax 431W or Antec 300W

I would like to use the Antec as its a new case and has a allegedly quiet psu fan but will 300W be enough given its a decent quality psu?

other components:
120gb drive
ti4200
cdwriter
1Gb ram.
* I plan on overclocking the cpu if possible.

I cant find the guide anymore, but my brother has a very similiar set up to yours and i used a guide on the internet that added up all your components and gave you how much Watts it needed to run properly.

His came to 245 watts, so 300 should be enough.

Here's a link to the PSU i use, very quiet has two fans to help get rid of the heat and a built in temperature reader so it knows when to increase or decrease the fan speed.

Also the rumour is they are really Antec but with out the badge

May well be the same then - this one is a "smart blue" psu.

I already own them btw hence having a specific two to choose between.

Thats o.k. RedPutty, you already own them, then i'd install the 300W Antec but if you put another HD or CDRW then you will have to stick a higher rate PSU in though.

if your psu has high load all of the time, it will not last nearly as long. antec and enermax are good quality psus so if one died i doubt it would damage anything else.
both of those psus will be capable of running that system but your rails will be weaker (lower voltage) and will harm stability if they drop too low.
stick the 300w psu in, get it booted to windows and watch the voltages in mbm5 with the cpu under no load. then open prime95 and do the torture test and see how far they drop. the 12v will/should drop the most, the 3.3 should probly drop next and the 5v will drop last (on mine anyway). if they drop by more than 5% you might have problems exept the 12v which doesnt really matter as its only used for fans usually

hmmm, according to that calculator, im running 383W+ on my 350w psu. i aint half glad its an enermax one - though i think i need to look at getting a replacement...

If you are looking at an Antec 300W PSU, have you considered the Antec Sonata case?

Comes with a 380W Ante PSU and an excellent case that if pretty quiet and very easy to work on once the system is built. I love mine and will get another one for my server next time it needs an upgrade.

All up excellent case and PSU for £85 from Simply.

The sonata is an incredible case. Used it to build my parents a new computer (they wanted something silent). it's virtually silent, no problems, and keeps everything very cool. A quality product!

I was going to mention the Sonata as well, seems like a great case, good looking as well, imo. And I like the fact it takes two 120mm fans, one front, one rear.

I'd also recommend the sonata , I absoultuly love mine, just got my samsung HDD back as well and put it in the special dampned hardrive rail, haven't heard it yet :-D

I'm sure the Antec will be fine. Look at my Sig, very similar to your setup, and it sure isn't the lightest power system , I was running it on a 235W Sparkle PSU for a while, no probs what so ever. And it is now happily running on a 550W Q-tec PSU.
