For building a gaming rig would it better to get an E6300 and overclock or E4300 overclocked.

Depends heavily on the motherboard and ram you intend to buy.
I'm going for E4300, theroertical higher overclock when using DDR800 memory (3.6ghz on the E4300)
Just got to wait for the bits and pieces to be sold then I can go ahead and order everything.
The 6300 at lower total clock speed may outperform a 4300 due to the large FSB tho. I think either will produce pretty similar results, 6300 just requires better RAM.
The E4300 uses less power too and hence runs cooler!
I'm going for an E4300 i originally planned on an E6600, but decided on the cheaper one and some clocking.
I have a E4300 running at 2.85ghz stably in my Shuttle SD37P2! I could have clocked it higher but the SD37P2 cannot go over a 320mhz FSB stably!
